Today Shirley and I took a day ride from Silver City through Pinos Altos to the Cliff Dwelling National Monument. When we left the Cliff Dwelling National Monument we traveled through Mimbres, San Lorenzo, stopping at the Santa Rita strip mine and then back to Silver City.

Day 110 – 11 September – Holloman AFB, Alamogordo, NM to Silver City NM
Today we traveled 217 miles from Alamogordo, NM to Silver City NM. We stopped at the White Sands National monument and the White Sands Missile Range museum. We then stopped for fuel in Las Cruces and lunch in Hatch. We traveled through Deming into Silver City.
Day 109 – 10 September – Hobbs, NM to Holloman AFB, Alamagordo, NM
Shirley and I traveled 207 miles today from Hobbs, New Mexico to Holloman AFB, Alamagordo, New Mexico. We stopped in Artesia, NM for breakfast and looked at some of the local statues and murals. we traveled through Hope, and Cloudcroft on the way to Alamagordo.
Day 108 – 9 September – Hobbs, NM
Shirley awoke today with a sinus headache so we extended are stay in Hobbs, NM and she slept and took the Goldwing out and explored around the town of Hobbs. 52 Miles
Day 107 – 8 September – Dyess AFB Abilene, TX to Hobbs, NM
Shirley and I traveled 235 miles from Dyess AFB to Hobbs, New Mexico today. We can tell that it is getting closer to Fall, We had to wait for sunrise to get packed up and it was 63 degrees when we left Abilene, Texas. We stopped at the Snyder country store and visited with several people that were having coffee. We also stopped in Lamesa and Seminole, Tx before arriving in Hobbs, NM. We found a nice campground in Hobbs, COWBOY’s RV Park, and chatted with the owner before setting up camp.
Day 106 – 7 September Grapevine, Tx to Dyess AFB Abilene, Tx
Today Shirley and I traveled 211 miles from Grapevine, Texas to Dyess AFB Abilene, Texas. It was good to get back on the road, we went through Ft. Worth, Stephenville, Dublin, De Leon, Rising Star, and Abilene. We stopped on Hwy 6 outside of De leon at Shirley’s grandfather’s homestead. We talked with Charles Neighbor who knew Mo Killebrew and told us a lot about the homestead. Then we stopped at the DQ in De leon and proceeded to Rising Star where we found a historical marker at a First United Methodist Church.
Day 97 – Day 105 , 29 August – 6 September, Grapevine, TX
Shirley and I had a great time at Wing Ding (Goldwing Rally). We spent time with old and new friends. We visited the vendors and helped support their lifestyle. Shirley and I worked in the GWRRA store, the light parade and the grand parade. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year in Knoxville, TN.. We ended up spending an extra 4 nights in Grapevine due to the cooling fan and motor assembly going out. Dallas Honda did a great job ordering the parts and getting us back on the road. 122 miles
Day 96 – 28 August – Gainsesville, TX to Grapevine, TX
Shirley and I traveled 57 miles from Gainesville, Texas to Grapevine, Texas. We had an easy day, checked into our hotel, and helped in the GWRRA store preparing for Wing Ding.
Day 95 – 27 August – Tinker AFB to Gainesville, Texas
Shirley and I traveled 203 miles from Tinker AFB to Gainesville, Texas. We traveled south through Tecumseh, Stratford, Sulphur, Mannsville, and Ardmore. We traveled through the Chickasaw N.R.A., We stopped at the bison viewpoint, no bison visible, and also crossed lake Texahoma.
Day 90 – 94, August 22-26, Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, OK
Shirley and I spent 5 days at the family camp on Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We visited with my sister Becky, brother-in-law Mark, niece Yasmeen, her kids Preston and Alec, my nephews Jasim and Nasser, and Jasim’s wife Noelle. It was great visiting with everyone and it was nice to relax for the week. I took the Goldwing into the shop for an oil change and came out with tires, brakes, and an oil change. 86 miles
Day 89 – 21 August – Paris, Tx – Tinker AFB, OK
Today we traveled 277 miles from Paris, Texas to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We went north through Hugo, Antler, Tupelo, Ada, and Shawnee into Tinker AFB. We were able to get into camp before the heat of the day. we will be at Tinker AFB until Sunday the 27th of August.
Day 88 – 20 August – Barksdale AFB, LA to Paris, TX
We traveled 185 miles today from Barksdale, AFB to Paris. While in Paris we visited the Eiffel Tower and the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial. The Veterans Memorial is one of the best that I have ever visited.
Day 87 – 19 August – Barksdale AFB
Today is a down day exploring Barksdale AFB, fuel, and base exchange. 32 Miles
Day 86 – 18 August – Alexandria, La to Barksdale AFB, LA
Today Shirley and I traveled from Alexandria, LA to Barksdale AFB, Boosier City, LA. We had a nice ride through bayous, pecan plantations, and corn fields. It was especially nice because we didn’t have any thunder storms and did not arrive in camp wet. The famcamp on Barksdale AFB is very nice with a community center, laundry, and clean restrooms with showers. 140 Miles
Day 85 – 17 August – Nachez Trace Parkway
Shirley and I spent our third day on the Natchez Trace Parkway. We traveled 191 miles, the last 93 miles on the trace and then from Natchez, MS to Alexandria, LA. We stopped at Locust House which is the last preserved inn on the trace. We were caught in a rain shower 12 miles from Alexandria.
