Day 84 – 16 August – Nachez Trace Parkway

Today we traveled 174 miles on the Nachez Trace Parkway from Tupelo, MS to Jackson, MS.  We stopped at several historic markers along the way and at French Camp.  French Camp has several buildings, a post office, blacksmith shop, barn, two homes, and several outbuildings.

Day 83 – 15 August – Natchez Trace Parkway

Shirley and I traveled 210 miles from Franklin, Tennessee to Tupelo, Mississippi along the Natchez Trace Parkway.  It was a very relaxing ride 50 MPH through the countryside without any stop lights or stop signs.  We spotted wild turkeys, deer, and a turtle on the parkway.

Day 81 – 13 August – Franklin, TN

Today we toured the Carnton plantation and the Carter house.  During the tours we learned about the families and the battle of Franklin.  We had two great tour guides that were well versed.  We then stopped at the Fort Granger site.  14 Miles

Day 80 – 12 August – Nashville

Today Shirley and I rode into Nashville and walked around old downtown.  We decided to tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.  They had three special displays Shania Twain, Jason Aldean, and Bob Dylan.  They had a special display in the Hall of Fame for Glen Campbell due to his recent death.  We then ate lunch and walked up to the Ryman Auditorium.  On the home we stopped at Travellers’ Rest.  46 Miles

Day 79 – 11 August – Maxwell AFB to Franklin, TN

We traveled 304 miles today from Maxwell AFB to Franklin, Tennessee.  We headed north on highway 31 through Clanton, Birmingham, Decatur, and Athens.  In Tennessee we went through Pulaski, Columbia, Spring Hill, into Franklin.  Around Columbia, TN we ran into a severe rain shower, with nowhere to pull off we had to continue when we found a place to pull off the sky had lightened and we continued to Franklin.

Day 71 – 3 August – Patrick AFB

Today we completed some errands, laundry, banking, and visited with a high school classmate.  I contacted Marie when we arrived at Patrick and made arrangements for her to visit today.  She came out to the Famcamp and we had a good visit.  For dinner we met with Brent and Michaela Peyton, and Mike Rak at the River Rock restaurant.  We had a good dinner and visit. 39 Miles
