Day 18 – June 11 – Exploring Winnipeg

Today Shirley and I went for a ride to Fort Gibraltar, then we went to the Manitoba Museum and saw the dinosaur exhibit and the Manitoba history gallery.  A replica of the nonsuch that was built in England and sailed to North America was in the museum on display.  46 Miles

Day 17 – June 10 – Venturing into Winnepeg

Today we ventured into Winnipeg and stopped at the Canadian Mint, we bought the new $2 coin and took a tour of the mint.  We then drove through Winnipeg past the Legislative building and gardens to the Canadian Museum of Human Rights were we spent several hours.  We then walked over to The Forks and walked around the park and the market past Union Station.  It was a wonderful day.  43 Miles

Day 16 – June 9 – Boissevain,MB to lle des Chenes, MB

Today we traveled 195 miles from Boissevain to lle des Chenes.  It was a fairly easy day and we stopped in Holland, MB and St. Claude, MB and made it to the campground by 1300.  After we setup camp we ventured out to Niverville, MB and returned to camp.  We returned to camp and got the bikes covered just before it started to rain.  202 Miles

Day 15 – June 8 – Visiting Boissevain

We spent the day with Al and Lynn, we went out for Brunch and then toured around downtown Boissevain looking at the murals and learning about the small town.  Then we went to the International Peace Garden and walked around the grounds.  We want to thank Al and Lynn for their hospitality.  0 Miles

Day 13 – June 6 – Medicine Hat,AB to Moose Jaw,SK

The trip from Medicine Hat to Moose Jaw was fairly uneventful.  We stopped at Swift Current for lunch and arrived in Moose Jaw about 1330.  The trip was tiring, the winds from Swift Current to Moose Jaw were 18 to 25 mph.  We walked around downtown Moose Jaw and saw the painted murals, the Motel that Al Capone stayed in, and the Chocolate Moose fudge factory.  268 Miles

Day 11 – June 4 – Visiting

This morning we met up with GWRRA chapter AB-A Calgary, Alberta for breakfast.  We had a good visit and then we followed several members down to “Two Wheel Sunday” an annual event for all motorcycle riders.  They had vendors, food, and music.  We then headed back to camp to do laundry and pack for traveling tomorrow.  I stopped and took pictures of the 1988 Olympic park that is near the campground.  40 Miles

Day 10 – June 3 – Sightseeing in Calgary

It’s Saturday morning and we are venturing out to see the sights in Calgary, After we tend to the bikes.  We stopped and had Shirley’s looked at for tire wear and general look over and then we had an oil change and general inspection done to mine.  After that was completed we stopped at Fort Calgary and the Aero Space Museum.  66 Miles

Day 8 – June 1 – Golden, BC to Lake Louise, AB to Golden, BC

Today Shirley and I traveled south down the Columbia Valley on Hwy 95 paralleling the Columbia River to Hwy 93 crossing over Sinclair Pass into the Kootenay valley.  We continued north up the valley and over Vermilion Pass to Hwy 1 stopping at Lake Louise and the Spiral tunnels.  We then continued back to our camp in Golden.  Along the route we stopped at the Beeland market and coffee bar and had a great conversation with the owner.  We also stopped at the visitor center in Radium Hot Springs.  A beautiful day for a ride with some great scenery in the Northern Rockies.

Day 7 – May 31 – Kamloops, BC to Golden, BC

Today was moving day we packed up the trailers and headed out from our campground in Kamloops, BC to Golden, BC.  We traveled Hwy 1 through Glacier National Park and Rodgers Pass.  We stopped at Craigellachie in Eagle Pass where the last spike was driven for the Canadian Pacific Railway.  Just as we finished setting up camp in Golden the rain started, it had been threatening all day.  223 Miles

Day 6 – May 30 – Copper Mine Trail

Today we explored the Copper Mine Trail NW of Kamloops.  We traveled from Kamloops to Little Fort stopping at the forest firefighters memorial from a forest fire that went through the area of Barriere in 2003 (The picture below shows 2 carvings that stand there, the one on the left is a firefighter leaning on a tree, and the one on the right is a dragon coming out of the tree).  From Little Fort we continued on to 100 Mile House and Ashcroft, on the way to Ashcroft we stopped at the Chasm.  Chasm is a deep gorge carved out by a stream going through the lava flows 10,000 years ago.  From Ashcroft we continued to Lake Logan and stopped at the Lake Logan visitor center.  We then returned to our campsite in Kamloops.

It was a great day we had 2 short bouts of rain and the temperatures where as low as 55 degrees when we were in the mountains.
