Day 54 – 17 July – Lancaster County

We rode 144 miles on the backroads of Lancaster county today.  We headed to Lancaster through Green Lane, Gilbertsville, Pottstown, Morgantown, and Leola.  We stopped at Good and Plenty in Ronks for lunch and then headed back through Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse, White Horse, Pottstown and Green Lane.  We arrived back in camp just before the thunderstorm started.  we saw several Amish horse and buggies and a horse drawn baler working in the hay field.

Day 53 – 16 July – Chicopee, MA to Green Lane, PA

Today we traveled 293 miles through 5 states, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.  We left Chicopee, MA and setup camp at the Homestead Campground in Green Lane, PA.  It was a beautiful day for a ride, It was mainly backroads or secondary highways and went through the mountains.  We stopped at the Toll House in Hudson Highlands State Park and drove a good distance along the Hudson river.

Day 51 – 14 July – Bedford, MA to Chicopee, MA

Today we traveled 139 miles from Bedford, MA to Chicopee, MA.  The weather today was overcast and threatening rain so we did not make a lot of stops (no pictures).  We headed south from Hanscom, AFB to Woonsocket and Harrisville, RI.  We then turned West thru Putnam, Ashford, Windsor Locks, and Suffield, Connecticut.  Then we headed north through Springfield to Chiccopee, MA and Westover, AFB.

Day 48 – July 11 – Exploring Boston

Today we took both motorcycles into Parkway Cycle to have the oil changed and a general inspection.  While they where working on the motorcycles Shirley and I went into Boston and had breakfast and then walked to the Bunker Hill memorial.  While we were there we started talking with one of the volunteers and I noticed has name tag, his name was Ron Ridley and it unknown if he is any relation.  I then climbed the 294 steps to the top of the memorial.  When I got back down Shirley and I started out walking The Freedom Trail down to the USS Constitution and the museum.  Then we went to the The State House, Old South Meeting House, and the Old North Church.  The day started out wet but turned out to be a nice day. 39 Miles

Day 47 – 10 July – Scarborough, ME to Bedford, MA

Shirley and I traveled 177 miles from Scarborough, ME to Bedford, MA and checked into the Famcamp at Hanscom AFB.  We continued down the coast of Maine into New Hampshire and on into Massachusetts.  On the coast of Massachusetts we stopped in Rowley and continued to Essex, Gloucester, and stopped in Salem.  In Salem we walked to the “Witch House” and into the downtown commons.  We continued through North Boston, MA to Bedford, Ma.  It was a great day for traveling.

Day 46 – 9 July – Ellsworth, ME to Scarborough, ME

Today we traveled 166 miles from Ellsworth, ME to Scarborough, ME.  We stopped in Bucksport, Rockport, Waldoboro, Bath, and Scarborough.  In Bucksport we stopped at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, in Rockport we stopped and looked at the breakwater and lighthouse, in Waldoboro we ate at ‘Moody’s Diner” we went to the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath.  At the maritime museum we took in the tour of the shops and learned about the six masted great schooner “Wyoming”, and took a boat ride on the Kennebec and Sasanoa rivers looking at lights and lighthouses and the Bath Iron Works.

Day 45 – 8 July – Acadia National Park

Shirley and I went into Bar Harbor this morning for breakfast.  After breakfast we rode the outer loop of Arcadia National Park taking in the views and talking to other motorcyclists along the way.  The formations on the seashore were amazing and some of the viewpoints were spectacular.  77 Miles

Day 44 – July 7 – Moncton, NB to Ellsworth, ME

This morning we left Moncton, NB in the sun and traveled southeast through Saint John to St. Stephens were we had lunch and then passed over the border to Milltown, Maine.  We continued down the coast on highway 1 stopping at several viewpoints on the way to the campground in Ellsworth.  We had to stop to put on rain gear because of the threatening skies, luckily the rain was light and didn’t last very long.  314 Miles

Day 42 – July 5 – The Cabot Trail

Today Shirley and I rode the Cabot Trail and Cape Breton Highlands.  We left our campsite and headed out on the Cabot trail counterclockwise stopping at viewpoints, eating breakfast in Ingonish, and a break from the construction at Pleasant Bay.  After we finished the Cabot trail we went to the Alexander Graham Bell museum.  212 Miles

Day 40 – July 3 – Side trip to Peggy’s Cove, NS and into Halifax, NS

Today we headed to Peggy’s Cove and stopped at the Thunderbird Diner for breakfast, it had great food and a young man was keeping us entertained with selections from the jukebox.  We stopped at the memorial for Swissair flight 111, and at Peggy’s Cove.  Then we continued into Halifax where we watched the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.  Then we went to the Halifax Citadel, and had dinner at Durty Nellies before returning to camp.  91 Miles

Day 37, 38, and 39 – June 30-July 2 – Bluenose Rally to Upper Sackville, NS

We spent days 37, 38 and 39 at the Bluenose Rally hosted by the Apple Valley Riders.  It was a good weekend for talking with people and getting to know the people that attended, but a lousy weekend for riding.  It rained Friday and Saturday and broke long enough on Sunday for the motorcycle parade to brunch at the Acadia University.  Shirley was awarded the 2017 Road Rider and I was awarded the 2017 Longest Distance International.  We had a great time and will hopefully be able to attend this rally again.  After the Brunch we packed up camp and headed for Upper Sackville just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia.  115 Miles
