Day 4 – May 28 – Surrey, BC to Kamloops, BC

We left Surrey, BC at about 0930 today headed for Kamloops, BC.  after a stop in Coquitlam for ice and provisioning we headed out Hwy 7 to Hope, BC where we had lunch and then continued on Hwy 1 up the Frasier river canyon.  We stopped at Hell’s Gate Airtram and rode the tram to the bottom and back up across the Frasier river.  The bottom of the tram way is in the coast mountain range, and the top of the tram way is in the cascade mountain range.  We then continued up Hwy 1 to Cache Creek and then to our campsite in Kamloops.  297 Miles

Day 3 – May 27 – Exploring Vancouver, BC

Shirley and I left camp early this morning and met up with 5 members of chapter BC-A for breakfast and coffee.  After our visit, we headed for Steveston, BC to explore and have a bite to eat.  We visited the fisherman’s wharf and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery museum.  Then we headed over to Stanley park, drove through Chinatown and then back to camp for some house cleaning and rest before we travel tomorrow. The weather is still beautiful in the high 70’s to low 80’s and clear skies.  82 Miles

Day 2 – May 26 – Auburn, WA to Surrey, BC

We left Auburn at 0600 today and had breakfast at the airport in Snohomish.  We continued on the back roads to Sumas and crossed into Canada about noon and stopped in Fort Langley around 1330.  We made it to the campground in Surrey, British Columbia at 1430 and had camp setup by 1600.  Now we are just relaxing from 2 days on the road.

Weekend in Victoria

Last weekend Shirley and I spent the weekend at an Air-BnB in Victoria.  We went to Victoria to watch our grandson perform with the Oregon City Marching Band in the Battle of the Bands and the Victoria Days parade.  My parents met Shirley and I and we did the normal tourist activities.  On Thursday we went on a tour of Victoria by carriage, On Friday we drove to Naniamo for lunch and stopped in Chemainus, and Duncan on the way back to Victoria.  Chemainus has murals painted on the sides of buildings throughout the town and Duncan has a Totem pole tour that we walked.  On Saturday we went to the Royal British Columbia Museum and then we met up with our daughter Sue (chaperone) and Grandson JT.  On Sunday we watched the Battle of the Bands and on Monday we watched the Victoria Days parade and then caught the ferry home.  It was a very enjoyable weekend.

ABCity Tour – Trip 8

Shirley and I left Newport this morning to finish up our ABCity Tour for 2017.  We were able to stop in Seal Rock, Siltcoos, Siltcoos Station, Sulpher Springs, Smith River, Scottsburg, Saunders Lake, Sitkum, Sixes, and Swisshome.  We traveled 548.6 miles in downpours and sun breaks.  We saw 2 different herds of elk.  For the entire tour I traveled 3,950 miles, 873 of those miles were in a four wheeled vehicle, 3,080 miles I was on my 2012 Goldwing.  I visited cities in 27 counties in Oregon.

ABCity Tour – Trip 7

Shirley and I left Portland at 11:30 this morning for a trip to the coast, We stopped in Scappoose, St. Helens, Svenson, Seaside, Sand Lake, Salishan, and Siletz.  We traveled 270 miles in rain, sun, and sleet.  It was a good day and we are staying the night in Newport.

ABCity Tour – Trip 6

After leaving Grants Pass and traveling 551 miles I have made it home.  I stopped in Summer Lake, Silver Lake, Sunriver, Sisters, and Simnasho.  It was a gorgeous day for a ride and it didn’t matter were in the state I was or in  what direction I looked there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.  Just a large orb that I barely recognized.  Temperatures today ranged from 39 to 65, and I encountered a lot of wind.

  

ABCity Tour – Trip 5

I was out riding 349 miles on the ABCity tour on Saturday.  I stopped in Sams Valley, Shady Cove, Sprague River, Shady Pine, Stewart Lennox, and Siskiyou.  It was a great ride across Hwy 62 near Crater Lake stopping at the Rogue River gorge wayside for some photos.  It was windy around Klamath Lake and I had snow on Dead Indian road between Klamath Falls and Ashland, luckily the temperature was above freezing and the road was just wet.

ABCity Tour – Trip 4

I traveled to Grants Pass today stopping in Springfield, Saginaw, Sutherlin, Sunny Valley, and Selma.  Overall it was a good ride although it was wet most of the day.  348 miles traveled today.

 

ABCity Tour – Trip 3

Shirley and I took a short ride today, 30 April, to collect the cities in the southern Willamette valley, we rode 309 miles and stopped in 9 cities Shaw, Sublimity, Stayton, Scio, Sodaville, Sweet Home, Shedd, Summit, Suver, and St Louis.  We had a great ride the weather was dry all day and the sun showed up on the way to Shedd and stayed with us until we arrived home.

ABCity Tour – Trip 2

On Friday and Saturday, 21 and 22 April 2017, I rode 1119 miles and was able to stop at 9 more “S” cities.  On Friday I left Vancouver and rode to Heppner Junction turning south on Hwy 74 to Heppner, I departed Heppner on Willow Creek Rd.  After riding about 15 miles I ran into snow and had to turn around back to Heppner, I continued out Hwy 74 to Hwy 395 and went south to Hwy 344 stopping in Starkey on the way to La Grande. When I left La Grande, I stopped in Summerville, and Stanfield.

On Saturday I attended the Chapter H Goldwing Road Riders (GWRRA) gathering, after the gathering I departed south on I-84 to Baker City and Hwy 7 to Sumpter.  From Sumpter I continued to Hwy 26 and turned on Hwy 395 to Seneca and Silvies.  I returned to Hwy 26 and continued East to Hwy 19 stopping in Spray, Service creek and Fossil for a bite to eat.  I left Fossil on Hwy 218 to Shaniko and continued home on Hwy 97 to Hwy 26.

ABCity Tour – Trip 1

Shirley and I have started our ABCity tour rides to capture as many cities that start with “S” before we leave on our big trip in mid-May.  last Sunday we rode with 3 friends from our yacht club.  We had breakfast in NE Portland and then left on a 260 mile ride to Scholls, Sherwood, St. Paul, Sheridan, Salt Creek, Salem, Silverton, Scotts Mills, Shady Dell, and Sandy.  We had a great ride and can’t wait until the next time.
